Importance of Protecting Money and Things You Own

Learning Targets:

Targets for knowledge, skills, and behaviours below are possible targets. It is not expected that all will be covered by a single Teaching Unit. Teachers can select their learning targets using the Teaching Units provided (to the right), adaptations of these Teaching Units, or Units/Lesson Plans they develop on their own.

KNOW:

  • Things people own and care about can be protected in different ways
  • Ways to protect cash when carried
  • How banks help protect savings
  • Why banks pay interest on savings
  • Why banks charge fees for their services
  • Ways to protect things they own – i-pod, bike, etc.

BE ABLE TO:

  • Deposit money in the bank
  • Protect cash they carry with them
  • Protect their possessions

ACTION/BEHAVIOUR:

  • Take steps to keep their money and possessions safe
  • Use the services of a bank when needed and as appropriate

As the students reach preteen years they start to become more independent and, as such, enter into situations that require them to give some thought as to how they will protect their valued possessions including money.
